YOU are invited for the 3rd annual Sturgis Gran Fondo. Your day in the saddle will start on the streets of historic downtown Sturgis. You’ll be escorted out of town by motorcycle officers—just like they’ve done for the motorcycle rally these past 77 years. The route is a cyclist’s dream on the roads that the local riders love; Vanocker Canyon Road, Nemo Road and Mt. Rushmore Road. You’ll enjoy marshaled intersections, incredible twisties, switch-backs, challenging hills that drop into scenic river-valleys all complimented by excellent pavement that is well maintained through the non-winter months. There will be aid stations along the way with water, sports drinks, snacks and mechanical support.
At the halfway point you’ll have lunch with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln—that’s right, our lunch stop (a great spread of sandwiches, fruit & more!) is at Mt. Rushmore. Then it’s around that historic mountain for more incredible views and back to the finish line in Sturgis where your time will be electronically recorded and where you’ll collect your finisher’s patch, have some great barbecue, enjoy some music and maybe enjoy a frothy beverage…or two!
Not quite ready for 120 miles? Then try our 100-kilometer “Not-quite-as-gran-fondo.” Its route follows the first quarter or so of the 120 miler. There will be aid stations along the way for water, sports drinks, snacks and mechanical support and you’ll turn around at your own lunch stop and return to Sturgis. Once you’re back to the finish you’ll get the same treatment as our gran fondo riders; you’ll collect your finisher’s patch, have some great barbecue, enjoy some music and maybe enjoy a frothy beverage…or two!
We don’t want to leave out our future grand fondo riders or the friends and family of those doing the longer rides, so we’re offering a fun and scenic 20-miler that follows the early miles of the longer rides. You’ll turn around at the aid station where we’ll have snacks, drinks and mechanical support. Once you’re back to the finish you’ll collect your finisher’s patch, enjoy some music and maybe enjoy a frothy beverage…or two!
